Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (3.96 ERA) got the win, while Josh Tomlin (2.79 ERA) took the loss for the Indians. Daisuke Matsuzaka went 8 solid innings for the Red Sox, allowed 5 hits, one home run and one earned run with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Hideki Okajima (5.85). The Indians’s starter Josh Tomlin went 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Frank Herrmann (3.70) also pitched for the Indians. With the win, Matsuzaka’s record goes to 8-3, while Tomlin drops to 1-1. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for the Red Sox, bringing his saves up to 26.
Adrian Beltre provided much of the offense for the Red Sox with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 6 runs, the Red Sox put up 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Indians didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Trevor Crowe could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Indians mustered 2 runs, 7 hits and one error.
